Can fewer decorations make your home feel cozier? Discover the pineapple rule and learn how to decorate beautifully with less clutter.

Minimalist Mindset

I have been learning about minimalism for over three years now. Although I don’t consider myself a minimalist, I definitely see the value of the minimalist mindset in many areas of life.

The Pineapple Rule

My home isn’t minimalist by design, but I have learned a trick that helps me create a cozy environment without filling it with too much stuff. It’s called the pineapple rule.

The idea is simple: your decorative items shouldn’t be smaller than a pineapple. Instead of displaying lots of tiny decorative pieces that don’t make much impact, choose one larger item instead. In most cases, one piece on each surface is enough.

Cosy And Easy To Clean

This creates a clean, uncluttered, and elegant look. It’s not stark, as many people imagine minimalism to be. In fact, it can feel incredibly cozy and comfortable.

It’s also much easier to clean and keep tidy. Taking care of one decorative object is far simpler than taking care of ten small ones. No matter how cute those little pieces are, they tend to make a space feel visually cluttered, and I personally find them much harder to keep clean.

Think about it: you have to remove ten items, dust or wipe each one, clean the surface underneath, and then arrange everything again. That takes much longer than caring for one larger object, even if that object is ten times the size.

That’s why I prefer being minimalist in the quantity of my decor, but not necessarily in the size of it.

I hope that makes sense!
