Have you ever considered eating more homemade food? My goal is to avoid the freezer section at the store and prepare meals from scratch. While I still keep some ready-made meals in my freezer for those days when cooking feels overwhelming, I’ve noticed a shift in my habits.

We All Have Those Days

We all have days when we don’t feel like cooking—whether due to low energy, busy schedules, or burnout. However, I’ve found myself relying less on frozen convenience foods over the past few months. Instead, I’ve developed systems for easy, from-scratch cooking. The meals I prepare are simple and straightforward, but I know they’re nourishing and wholesome for my family.

The Shift In My Grocery Shopping

Today, after grocery shopping, I realized I hadn’t purchased any ready-made foods. My cart was filled with vegetables, fruits, butter, nuts, and a couple of dressings—items that can be considered semi-prepared. I also bought personal care products like shampoo, conditioner, and face wash. Notably absent were cookies, candies, bread, and frozen meals laden with artificial additives—items I used to buy regularly just a few months ago.

I was both amazed and proud of this change. Though it wasn’t intentional at the time, upon reflection, I realized I could set a goal to avoid the frozen food section and focus on purchasing primarily basic ingredients for cooking.

Being Intentional And Creative

On days when cooking feels like too much, I can still be prepared by pre-cooking and freezing meals myself or having simple options in mind. This approach is not only healthier but also more cost-effective than relying on store-bought frozen meals. I believe it’s entirely possible—I just need to be more intentional and creative in my planning.
