Small decisions made consistently can have a bigger impact than one dramatic life event. Here’s why tiny habits matter more than you think.

The Role Of Unexpected Big Events
There are different kinds of things that can impact our lives. There can be one big thing that happens, sometimes unexpectedly. It can be something good, like winning a green card, which actually happened to my family and changed our life very quickly and forever.
Some big, bad things can affect our lives as well. A few years ago, I broke my arm, and even now I still experience the consequences of that fall in regard to my health. Those big things happen once, and they make huge changes in your life as well as in the life of your family.
The Impact Of Small Changes
But there are also little things that can make a big impact on our lives — so-called “small wins.” The impact they make can be seen only if those things are done consistently. These things can be good, too. For instance, if you read a couple of pages of a book every day, by the end of the year you will have read a decent number of books, which, depending on the topic, can have a huge impact on your life.
The little things that affect your life can be bad as well — like smoking one cigarette a day. One cigarette won’t make a big difference to your health, but consistent smoking surely will.
You Have Power Of Shaping Your Small Habits
I find that we don’t always have to make big decisions — that happens only a few times during the course of our lives. But our everyday little decisions and habits — that’s what we have the ability to control and manage. Those little things are in our power, and they can make a big difference. They are the habits we develop, and they lead us to our goals.
Don’t Wait For Big Things
So the secret to success is not to wait for big things to happen. You will have big opportunities (like winning the lottery) or devastating changes (like surgery) at some point, and you will need to handle them and adjust your life.
Change The Course Of Your Life
But the little things are always in your control. You can make tiny changes for the better (or worse) every day for a long period of time, and you will see how they change the course of your life. If you eat an apple for a snack every day instead of a donut or ice cream, you will see how it affects your eating habits and your health in general.
If you start doing 30 minutes of exercise three times a week for six months, a year, two years, or three years — you will become a very fit and healthy person. There is no use in exercising just once. Even if you spend three hours in the gym, that one session cannot make you healthy and strong. Even short workouts, when done consistently over a long period of time, will bring good results. And what I like most about it is that it is absolutely in our power to make those little changes — those small wins — that can change our lives.
