Sometimes Fear Can Stop Me From Doing The Right Thing
Since I was 16 and came to know Jesus, I have been an active part of the church and have fasted regularly. Over the years, I’ve gone through different seasons — I had children and needed to take breaks from fasting — and by the time I was about 35, I had pretty much stopped fasting altogether. There were a few reasons for that.
The Reasons For Fear And Lack Of Motivation
I started feeling tired and overwhelmed with my life and schedule, so I thought I didn’t have the capacity to do anything extra, like fasting, since it required more effort. But I realized that I had low energy levels and felt tired all the time anyway.
Another reason was that I knew some people who fasted often and had developed serious health issues, so I assumed fasting was bad for my health. But actually, the opposite started happening — the longer I went without fasting, the more health problems I began to have. I also didn’t know how to fast properly at the time, so I didn’t experience many of its health benefits.
Benefits Of Fasting
Later, I learned that fasting helps with both of the things I had been worried about: energy levels and health. While energy may drop during the fast, it’s followed by a noticeable boost afterward. And when done correctly, fasting is a very powerful healing mechanism. Plus, I’ve always known that fasting carries great spiritual benefits.
But my fear and lack of knowledge in this area kept me from enjoying the amazing benefits of fasting for years. Now, I’m so grateful to be able to use this wonderful gift that God has given us to improve both my spiritual and physical well-being.
